DPTA are proud to be represented by the most experienced, qualified teachers found in Yorkshire, with a collective appreciation and love for Theatre and Dance. All tutors are DBS checked and have enormous ability in their teaching field. Our tutors have worked professionally in their chosen aspect of the Theatre Arts and wish to pass on their capacious knowledge and attributes to those wishing to pursue a career in the Performing Arts.


Damien Poole BA Hons

DPTA Principal and Head of Musical Theatre

A true Yorkshireman, Damien graduated from Arts Educational School of Musical Theatre in London with his degree in Dance and Musical Theatre and has enjoyed a ten-year career working in London’s West End.

Damien has led Workshops, Masterclasses and Talks across the UK and the Netherlands for the last 10 years and adores working with children who want to learn their craft.

After being pushed to the back of the stage as a child, Damien wishes to give every student the chance to shine in their own spotlight, and to create the new casts of Musical Theatre.

Theatre; Vince Fontaine/Teen Angel/Kenickie/Roger in Grease (Piccadilly Theatre)  Originated the role of The Mad Hatter in Shrek the Musical (Original London Cast) Originated the role of Oompa Loompa in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Original World Cast) Kansas/Dance Captain in Gypsy alongside Imelda Staunton (London Revivial Cast) Swing/Assistant Dance Captain in Groundhog Day (Original World Cast - won Best New Musical Olivier) West End Chorus in Chess in Concert (Founding Chorus Member) Ensemble in 'Betwixed' the Musical.

Damien also regularly appeared in Emmerdale, My Parents Are Aliens, Heartbeat and Wilmot as a child actor.

Soundtrack; Chess in Concert, Josh Groban's No1 Album 'Anthem', Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Cast Album, Gypsy London Revival Cast Album.

Workshops; ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Groundhog Day’ and Disney’s ‘Frozen’ the Musical.

Damien worked as a session singer on the new 'Mary Poppins Returns' film with Lin Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt, and sang as Adele's backing singer on her Wembley Dates of her International Tour this summer.

He continues to work professionally  whilst ensuring he is present at DPTA leading classes every week.

Sarah Redgwick

DPTA Head of Singing and Vocal Technique

Sarah trained at the Guildhall. and completed her studies in the postgraduate Opera Course. The winner of the GSMD Gold Medal for singers, she was a Samling Artist, and has received awards from The Countess of Munster Trust, the Madeleine Finden Trust, the Sybil Tutton Trust and the Wingate Foundation.

Alison Branson

DPTA Choir and Principal Assistant

 

Alison Branson has been performing since the age of 4. She has been a member of several choirs over the years, performing in a wide range of venues both in this country and abroad. Alison trained at the College of Ripon and York St. John, studying music and education and specialising in the voice. She has taught music firstly in Middle Schools and latterly in Secondary schools for the last 31 years. During this time she has taught many students who have gone on to take up professional careers in theatre, film and television. She has trained many school choirs and has undertaken European tours to Germany and Austria.

Alison plays a number of instruments, including piano, organ and guitar. She is the founder and Musical Director of the Cleckheaton Community Choir, which continues to go from strength to strength and is in its 5th year, and of the newly formed West Yorkshire Fire Service Choir.

Alison has written and directed several children’s musicals for local schools and community groups; these have been performed in local churches but also in St. George’s Hall, Bradford and the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield. She has worked with many professional musicians, composers and theatre directors, and conducted the world premiere of Spirit of Bradford, written by Jazz musician Nikki Iles and performed by one of the world’s leading jazz saxophonists Barbara Thompson.

Alison is delighted to be able to work with DPTA. She is a great supporter of Performing Arts Education and hopes to continue to inspire young and not-so-young performers.

Charlotte Jones BA Hons

DPTA Guest Cover Tutor

 

Originally from Birmingham, Charlotte graduated from LCM with a degree in Vocals and Technique. She soon became Yorkshire’s most sought after professional vocal coach and enjoying a successful singing career. She has supported ‘Feeder’ on tour, comedian Chrissy Rock and performed for Celebrity Masterchef, headlining Beatherder festival and performed regular solo vocals at venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Bradford Alhambra. She also sang alongside West End star Shona Lindsay and MD Robert Willis. Charlotte discovered her true love lay with nurturing young talent and set up her vocal school in 2011. Her work takes her across the country, teaching both children and adults. Her pupils have gone on to great heights and many are now working performers themselves. She has students currently performing in number one UK tours, signed to record labels, have gained residencies in venues and excelled in auditions for performing colleges and universities. Charlotte has a 100% pass rate for vocal exams and 98% of her pupils pass at merit or above.
